Because of the unique geographical location of the state of Alaska, for most travelers planning to come to Alaska, flying aboard airlines is one of the main ways to get to or get out of Alaska. One could drive across Canada over Alaska Canada Highway, or take a ferry from the state of Washington, but that’s too long of a journey, thus making airlines a convenient option.
Not many airlines fly directly to Alaska. There are some airlines which only operate during the summer months, and there are some airlines which operate year around. There are some airlines that operate direct non-stop flight from both East and West coast. If you do not plan it correctly, you might end up flying with airlines with multiple connections. To choose the efficient airline route, you should know which airports have direct connection to Alaska’s Ted International Airport in Anchorage or Fairbanks International Airport. If you are undecided whether to fly in to Anchorage or Fairbanks, since Anchorage boast the most number of incoming flights, you best bet to get cheaper airline fare is to fly in to Anchorage. Often time, it is also a good option to fly with airlines that gives you a choice to fly in or out of both Anchorage or Fairbanks, that way, you can either fly into to Fairbanks and travel south and fly out of Anchorage, or vice versa. This is more efficient, and you do not have to drive back and forth there by conserving your time.
