Before you board the train, enjoy a close up view of the TransAlaska pipeline and a presentation about the history and operation of the pipeline. Then take a seat aboard the narrow-gauge Tanana Valley Railroad and hear the conductor tell tales of prospectors who arrived by the thousands during the gold rush. The train ride takes you to Gold Dredge 8 where you will see first hand how the dredge worked the gold fields. Once the train arrives at the camp, local miners will give a brief but informative course in mining, and then you will try panning for yourself! You will find gold- we guarantee it!
Next, explore the dredge camp; wander through the attraction's Bunk House, Bath House and Dredgemaster's House as well as the Supply Center to view interpretive panels and exhibits in order to learn more about dredges, the daily life of the dredge crews, and the operations of the Fairbanks Exploration Company.enjoy complimentary Enjoy coffee and fresh-baked cookies in the gift shop as your gold is weighed.
