Girdwood is a small town, that lies in an idyllic valley along the turnagain arm, about 38 miles away from Anchorage. Originally called "Glacier City," Girdwood is surrounded by the Chugach Mountain Range, seven permanent glaciers, and boasts Alaska's most popular ski-resort, the Alyeska Resort and hotel. The entire town of Girdwood had to relocate 2.5 miles up into the valley after the 1964 Good Friday Earthquake; The land subsided 10 feet, and Girdwood found itself partially underwater.
Present day Girdwood consists of a diverse population of outdoor enthusiasts, local businesses, services and Anchorage commuters. Girdwood offers lots of fun summer activities like flightseeing, hiking, and more! Complete with a mercantile, a post office, a variety of B&B's, restaurants and bars, boutiques and shops, your stay in Girdwood is sure to be a comfortable one.

We had a wonderful vacation in Alaska. It was a vacation the four of us will never forget. Your knowledge of your state helped us follow your directions on our itinerary each day, and everything went smooth. I will certainly recommend to anyone who is thinking of a Alaskan vacation. Thank you so very much.
