You just stepped off the cruise ship, ready to experience Alaska on land. As you leave Seward you will ascend over 1000 feet into the Chugach National Forest, and deep in the Chugach Mountains. You will go through the small community of Moose Pass, and experience the beauty of Upper Trail Lake. As you pass Tern Lake, and the junction of the Seward and Sterling Highways you will begin descending back to sea level. Anchorage and beyond awaits you!
You are currently on the Kenai Peninsula, and as you leave the majesty and wonder of the massive forest behind you will begin to see more and more wildlife. Bears have been spotted from the roadways, as well as eagles and moose! When you leave the Kenai Peninsula you are entering a more uninhabited part of Alaska, and will have many more chances to see wildlife.
Past the Hope Junction is a small rest stop for you to stretch your legs before you continue on your journey around the Cook Inlet. Portage Glacier will be the first grand sight you see, apart from the marshes bordering the road. Continuing past Portage you will see the AWCC and the Whittier Tunnel. These are all excellent places to stop and take pictures. You will also come across the beautiful little town of Girdwood and its iconic gas station, this is a great place to stop for a snack, fill-up, or perhaps indulge in some gourmet ice cream.
Now you begin your trek into Turnagain Arm. You have gone completely around the Cook Inlet and will soon see the first glimpse of Alaska’s population. As you take the turns towards Anchorage, be sure to crane your necks to look up the plummeting cliffs. If you look hard enough you can see the mountain goats leaping effortlessly among the rocks and crevasses. To rest your neck and eyes for a bit, glance out of the other side of your vehicle and take in the splendor of the Cook Inlet. If you are lucky you may see a pod of Beluga or Orca whales.
One of the last great sights you will see before entering Anchorage’s City streets is the Potter Marsh. Made famous for its spectacular waterfowl viewing, this is a great opportunity to photograph bird-life..

My handicapped child wanted to go to visit the Alaska wilderness, and they had everything in place to make the lodging and tours accessible for us... They even picked us up from the airport. I can't wait to do all of the tours! Thank you so much for the beautiful memories.
